We were delighted to welcome the RAF into school yesterday for a Lego Education SPIKE Essential STEM Session with some of our Year 5 & 6 pupils  on Tuesday 28th November. We discussed travelling to the Moon and people who had been there before. Did you know only 12 people have been to the Moon and that none of them were women?  Did you also know that Buzz Lightyear is named after Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon?

The pupils were challenged to build their own Moon buggy. They discussed which parts were important and why, then they were shown how they could make certain aspects of the buggy. Once ideas were discussed they could then create!

We had some fantastic designs.

Once the buggy had been created from Lego, we then moved on to the coding side. Pupils were given a demonstration of different blocks and then allowed to experiment and develop how their buggy moved and what other things they could get it to do.

They could have a display of lights, which they could code to change as the buggy moved, they could also add in and record their own sounds.

The pupils had a great time, were very excited and enthusiastic to race their buggies 'over the moon' and were perfectly behaved. Our visitors thoroughly enjoyed working with our students.
