Sixth Form students have a personal tutor who ensures that they make the most of all the opportunities open to them. Tutors provide valuable help and support, especially during the process of Higher Education applications and when seeking employment.

Ongoing careers guidance and support is given to students who have access to an up to date careers library with prospectuses from all over the country.

Our regular Career Breakfasts allows students to meet professionals working in careers which are of personal relevance in relaxed surroundings, alongside students who have similar interests. For example, there have been opportunities to meet a nurse, a midwife, an accountant, a social worker, a business manager, a GP and an engineer, to name but a few. This excellent careers advice supports students to make the appropriate careers choices.

A structured programme of Higher Education visits and talks also prepares students to make the right career decisions, and to prepare them mentally, emotionally and socially for transition to Higher Education.

Opportunities to participate in sporting activities and events, and access to sporting facilities are open to those who wish to take advantage of them.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered to Sixth Form students. It is regarded as the world’s leading achievement award for young people, as its balanced programme of activities in the areas of volunteering, skills development, physical activity and expedition develops young people physically, mentally, socially and emotionally in an environment of social interaction and team working. It also encourages our students to live life to the full.

Many students contribute to the life of the school in general and their contributions are well documented in references for jobs and higher education. For example we have students who mentor pupils at Whytrig Middle School, students who regularly volunteer to support younger students during intake days, and students who work with lower school groups during lessons and registration sessions.
