After months of uncertainty, smiles and celebrations

Staff at Astley Community High School are absolutely delighted with the results their students are receiving today and that the decision was finally made to use Centre Assessed Grades. Teaching staff put in an enormous amount of time and effort to ensure that the grades submitted were fair and based on robust data.

Many students will continue their studies in the Sixth Form at Astley, where a wide range of academic and vocational subjects are on offer, including STEM subjects such as maths, chemistry, biology, physics and applied science.

Erin O’Brien received 8 Grade 8s in maths, English language and literature, three sciences, geography and history. Erin will return to sixth form at Astley to study A-Levels in maths, biology and chemistry.

Owen Turnbull achieved Grade 9s in maths, further maths, combined science, French and music; as well as grade 8s in English language and literature and a Distinction in business studies.  Owen will be returning to Astley sixth form in September to study maths, business studies and chemistry.

Head of School, Graham Scott said: “Our brilliant students have received the grades that they have earned and fully deserve for their efforts over the last two years. In what has been a very unusual year for everyone connected with our school, I would like to congratulate the students, parents/carers, governors and staff for their fantastic efforts. Well done to you all.”

Student Progress Leader for Year 11, Daniel Gilhooley commented: “I am immensely proud of how well all of our students have coped during these difficult times, they have been a credit to themselves, their families and the school. They have achieved some excellent GCSE results, which are testament to their hard work over the last three years at Astley.”

Chair of Governors, Susan Dungworth added: “This year has been incredibly tough for all our students and I am pleased that common sense has prevailed and the hard work and ability of the students receiving their results today has been recognised. I am immensely proud to be Chair of Governors for the Seaton Valley Federation and want to congratulate our students and wish them well in whatever they choose to do next and thank our amazing staff for their continuous support of our young people, especially during this challenging  period of uncertainty and worry.”
