Across Northumberland we have a mix of two and three tier schools.  At Seaton Valley Federation we are proud of our three tier system with both our middle schools (Seaton Sluice Middle School and Whytrig Middle School) and our high school (Astley Community High School). We welcome children in Year 5 from our local feeder first schools and in Year 9 when they transition from middle to high school. Some children join our middle schools in Year 7 from primary school, taking advantage of the supportive environment we provide. We also accept admissions in all year groups at any time during the school year, when places are available.

This September, Whytrig Middle School is delighted to have welcomed nine children from primary schools across the North East and as far away as Oxford!  We are pleased that all children have settled in extremely well and are embracing everything we have to offer from intuitive, challenging and enjoyable lessons, to after school clubs and activities.

Families have informed us how much their children are enjoying their start at Whytrig and how quickly they have made friends and felt part of the school community. One child thanked their parents for choosing Whytrig Middle School for them and expressed how much they are enjoying the variety of subjects and activities on offer.

Head of School, Mr Jon Souter commented on how quickly all pupils have settled into school and that pupils are welcomed into all year groups at any time during the academic year. The most recent Ofsted report (November 2021) stated, “Pupils who join the school during the year settle extremely quickly. They thrive in this nurturing environment”
