At SSMS, Astronomy 'STEM to Stars' after school club started in October which has been virtually led by an astronomer from Kielder Observatory. Meeting with various schools to take part in the online meet every week has been very exciting! During the club, our children have discovered so much and had opportunities to:
- explore the stellarium website to locate stars;
- create models of our Solar System;
- create their own meteorites using clay;
- design their own 'rocket landers' with limited materials to ensure occupants would survive (eggs!)
- create their own constellations to share with the group;
- investigate whether alien life would be possible elsewhere in our Solar System by mixing chemicals similar to those on the surface of Mars!
