Year 9 Hartley Pit Disaster Project

Year 9 students are taking part in a three-day cross-curricular project this week, focused on the 1862 Hartley Pit Disaster, exploring its historical significance and local impact.

Working in form classes, students will:

  • Create news reports
  • Design union banners in art
  • Explore mining's effects on the human body in science
  • Debate ethical issues in humanities

As part of the project, students will complete a 'Talking Homework' task at home: “How did the village of Hartley survive?” Resources will be available via the Year 9 Google Classroom.

Year 9 Families are invited to view students' work on Friday 24th October at 3:10pm in the main hall.
