Commemoration of the 161st anniversary of the New Hartley Hester Pit Disaster is taking place this weekend.
It be held on Saturday 14 January, starting at 11am with a short service of remembrance in the Memorial Garden and will be followed by refreshments and entertainment in the Memorial Hall.
The entertainment will be provided by children from the local schools and folk singers, including Beeswing and the Mariners and Marras. There will also be a display of students work from the Year 9 Astley Community High School students project.
